FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR

Charter Council Budget Meeting, Wednesday March 11th, 6-8 pm ~  The Admin/Finance committee has put together a proposal for resolving this year's budget deficit resulting from state budget cuts.  We welcome all to come and hear the specific points of the proposal and have a chance to comment prior to the Charter Council vote.  Later this week, I will be publishing a Budget Bulletin clearly detailing the points of the proposal.  If you are on our email list, it will be sent via e-mail. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Waldorf Parenting Conference: "Educating Our Children-Changing the Future"*
"Educating Our Children-Changing the Future" will be the theme of the regional parenting conference April 25-26 at Sacramento Waldorf School. In response to the tremendous changes and challenges facing us today, there will be more than three dozen workshops on social change, sustainability, parenting and Waldorf education, which was founded out of an impulse for social change and cultural renewal.  A complete brochure and secure online registration are available at:  www.waldorfinthehome.com or by calling (303) 546-0070. The conference is organized by Rahima Baldwin Dancy at Informed Family Life.

School Tours ~ All School Tours the second Wednesday of each month.  Next tour:  Wednesday, March 11.  Step inside each classroom for a view into the amazing world of the WSS curriculum.  We will start with a brief discussion and then spend a few minutes in each classroom (K-8) during Main Lesson.  It is a great way to learn about the curriculum and what it has to offer your children as they move through the grades. This is a wonderful opportunity for new, prospective and even established families to learn more about our school. Tours are approximately 90 minutes and begin at 8:30 am.  Adults only please and reservations are required.  Please contact Susan to book a spot on our next tour.

Expanding Your Horizons Conference ~ A Day of Fun and Activities for 7th and 8th Grade Girls ~ A conference to encourage young women to consider careers in non-tradional fields.  It is designed to introduce them to the world of math, engineering, science and technology.  Saturday, March 14, 8:30-2:00, Santa Rosa Junior College. From a WS Parent:  After a student turned 13 and believed it was her "right" to watch all PG-13 movies, and me not being comfortable with that (so many have mature themes and some should really be rated R),  I found this great website. www.commonsensemedia.org

FUNDRAISING

Fundraising Group is looking for the following:

   -  Eucalyptus Tree stumps about 10 to 12 inches in diameter just 2, please deliver to the campus by end of this week. 

  -  Hand made items for Great Gatsby Auction, turn in donation form by March 12, 2009, you can turn in your hand made item by March 20 at the latest. 

 Help with inputting items into cMarket for our next online auction.  The work can be done from home.  You just need access to the internet. 

Grand Parent Challenge letters are being mailed this week along with an invitation to the first Grand Parent Appreciation Day.  If you would like us to invite your parents to the Grand Parent Appreciation Day or you want to send them an invite either give us the address or pick up an invitation from the main office.  If your parents are already in the data base and tagged as a grand parent, then they will receive an invite along with a request for our grand parent challenge. 

Raffle ticket sellers are still needed.  We have sold 100 tickets so far and still have 900 to go!   We will be selling tickets outside Whole Foods and Sonoma Market.  Please sign up on the posted sign up sheets to help.

Great Gatsby volunteers -  Please sign up to help, the volunteer sign up sheets have been posted, we need bartenders, champagne pourers, live auction tabulators, set up, clean up, etc.

Estate Fundraiser - Save the Date for Saturday, March 28th and get your 1920s outfit ready.  This year's theme for the auction fund raiser will be the Great Gatsby.  Yes we are still doing an annual auction.  The difference is the size of the event.  It is much smaller this year and shorter.  Only 125 guests will be attending and the event will start at 5:00 and end around 8:30.  The event will be held at the outside patio at Estate Restaurant, which was generously donated by second grade parent John Toulze, the Executive Chef at Estate Restaurant.  We will be selling handmade items at the Silent Auction and Class Projects and some specialty items at the Live Auction.   If you have an item that you can donate for the silent that is personally made by you or by a friend, we would love to have it at our event.   The donation form is in the office or attached to this email.  Questions please contact Monica at 225-5557.

Six goats need a good caring home by March. All have unique and pleasant character. They are a mix of the South African Boer "meat goat" and the Sannen "dairy goat."  Three are still in excellent shape for breeding.  Three others should not be bred, as two are not the ideal shape and size, and one has had mastitis.
