Over the past few weeks, we have had the good fortune to work with Laurie Tuchel who is the curriculum director at Sebastopol Independent Charter School.  Laurie is a highly experienced teacher, mentor and evaluator who will be coming to speak to our parent body on Thursday, February 26^th on How the Waldorf Curriculum Prepares Students for High School. Laurie will be joined by a panel of past Waldorf graduates and their parents to discuss both the theory and the practical aspects of articulating from a Waldorf charter into the world of high school.  Don't miss this special event which runs from 7-8:30 PM and as usual, childcare is free for those with an advanced reservation.

Attn Mac owners: Want to help out the 8th grade class in their video project? We need 6 or so Mac laptops or iMacs so the children can work on their projects. The machines will have to be on loan to the school for 2 - 3 days on (you insert the dates). They have to be made within the last year or 2 so the iMovie software will all be similar versions. Can you help out? Contact (whoever the contact person is) to see if you're machine will work.

*Waldorf Parenting Conference: "Educating Our Children-Changing the Future"*
"Educating Our Children-Changing the Future" will be the theme of the regional parenting conference April 25-26 at Sacramento Waldorf School. Woodland Star Educational Foundation ~ On February 2, 2009 the Woodland Star Educational Foundation was made aware that the resignation of one of its board members, Val Robins, was verbally submitted and became effective immediately.

 

Val served strictly as a voting member on the Board and I thank her on behalf of the Educational Foundation for her tireless work in support of the children.

School Tours ~ All School Tours the second Wednesday of each month.  Next tour:  Wednesday, March 11.  Step inside each classroom for a view into the amazing world of the WSS curriculum.  We will start with a brief discussion and then spend a few minutes in each classroom (K-8) during Main Lesson.  It is a great way to learn about the curriculum and what it has to offer your children as they move through the grades. This is a wonderful opportunity for new, prospective and even established families to learn more about our school. Tours are approximately 90 minutes and begin at 8:30 am.  Adults only please and reservations are required.  Please contact Susan to book a spot on our next tour.

Estate Fundraiser - Save the Date for Saturday, March 28^th and get your 1920s outfit ready.  This year's theme for the auction fund raiser will be the Great Gatsby.  Yes we are still doing an annual auction.  The difference is the size of the event.  It is much smaller this year and shorter.  Only 125 guests will be attending and the event will start at 5:00 and end around 8:30.  The event will be held at the outside patio at Estate Restaurant, which was generously donated by second grade parent John Toulze, the Executive Chef at Estate Restaurant.  We will be selling handmade items at the Silent Auction and Class Projects and some specialty items at the Live Auction.   If you have an item that you can donate for the silent that is personally made by you or by a friend, we would love to have it at our event.   The donation form is in the office or attached to this email.  Questions please contact Monica at 225-5557.

The Donation Station is Back! ~ If you have items you would like to donate to the auctions, please bring them on Thursday at pick up time between 12:15 and 1:15.  We will be out in front collecting them!   We will be using the items for either the new cMarket auction or the Estate Fundraiser.  All handmade items to be sold at the Estate Fundraiser. 

 

‘Mortgage for a Year' Raffle Ticket Sales ~ Raffle Tickets are still available to sell.  You can pick up Raffle Tickets in the main office to sell OR you can purchase a ticket in the Main Office.

Six goats need a good caring home by March. All have unique and pleasant character. They are a mix of the South African Boer "meat goat" and the Sannen "dairy goat."  Three are still in excellent shape for breeding.  Three others should not be bred, as two are not the ideal shape and size, and one has had mastitis.
