Attainable and Sustainable: Education and Child Development with Waldorf master educator, Eugene Schwartz.
A Waldorf charter school faces a dual challenge. On the one hand, it
is required to educate children according to California state standards
that are based on an ever-changing set of goals that children are meant
to attain. On the other hand, it works with a developmentally-based
curriculum that tries to imbue children with capacities and values that
will sustain them throughout their lives. This course will explore the
exciting way in which Woodland Star works with this dynamic tension to
give its students a unique educational experience. Through lectures
and hands-on workshops we will go through the child's eight-year
experience in the grades.
This unique workshop will provide the opportunity to experience the
Waldorf curriculum in a hands-on manner. Participants will be
painting, form drawing, doing movement games, physics experiments and
more. Following the hands-on portion, Eugene will be explaining the
importance of how the Waldorf curriculum is delivered and why we do
what we do in a Waldorf-inspired charter school. There will also be
ample time for Q & A. This interactive workshop experience will
provide participants with a rich and deep foundation for understanding
Waldorf education.
